of tea, killface?”
- Mr. Ray Revolver, Ninja Killface Goes to Disneyland
In 2005, fresh out of high school and free from parental supervision for the first time, the Dollars & Donuts crew embarked on a trip to Disneyland during the park's 50th anniversary celebration. The trip included Daryl Della, Kirsten Olsen-Davis, Ray Revello, Brandon J. Snyder, and later, Nate Blonkenfeld, Christina Coffaro, and Emily Bordallo. Once Nate joined the trip, a film became inevitable. After all, no one can resist the allure of Disneyland, not even Ray Revolver and Ninja Killface.
The group had mixed feelings about filming in the park. While excited, they were also a bit embarrassed to don costumes and act in front of wandering tourists. The shoot started with a quick dialogue scene on a quiet path behind Sleeping Beauty Castle. This was followed by two camera setups on the Mad Tea Party ride. Daryl filmed Nate in one teacup, while Snyder shot Ray in another. Back home, Daryl edited the footage to make it appear as though both characters were in the same teacup, though keen eyes might spot Killface or Revolver in the background of shots where they shouldn’t be.
The film culminates with the comedic payoff of Ninja Killface receiving his own pair of golden Mickey ears, a nod to the park's golden anniversary celebration. The short is a unique time capsule, showcasing some of the temporary decorations from that era, including banners, gold ride details, and special touches that now feel nostalgic.
This fascination with filming inside Disneyland didn’t end with this project. Dollars & Donuts returned to shoot other shorts in and around the park over the years, the most notable and ambitious being Am I See You? in 2019.
Nearly two decades later in 2024, Daryl and artist Diego Toro reimagined Ninja Killface Goes to Disneyland as a two-page comic, bringing the story into the modern Dollars & Donuts remake continuity. The comic expanded the storyline with action sequences that would have been impossible to shoot in 2005 and featured Hollis L. Edwards III’s likeness as Killface instead of Nate Blonkenfeld’s.
