a bathroom built for two
Conceived in a whirlwind of last-minute desperation, A Bathroom Built for Two was written by Nate Blonkenfeld as a backup for Daryl Della’s class project. The film’s origins stem from Daryl’s nervousness about showing his actual project, Transit Trouble, to his classmates—a bold, absurd short featuring Lorenzo smearing fake feces on his face. Doubting whether the shockingly gross humor would be well-received, Daryl opted to create a more "palatable" alternative at Nate’s suggestion.
The result was a cutesy, low-effort student film that never aligned with the Dollars & Donuts ethos. The concept lacked the daring edge of the crew’s usual work, and the lack of passion shows. Ultimately, Daryl showed Transit Trouble to the class, where it received great acclaim from the teacher and other students, cementing his belief that boldness and artistic conviction always triumph over playing it safe.
Today, Daryl views this project as a personal misstep, not because of the actors’ efforts but because it represents a moment where he second-guessed his instincts. A reminder to artists: boldness wins. Always.
