Behind the Scenes

“Can you do more jumping jacks?”

- “Weird Al” Yankovic, Jumping Jacks with “Weird Al” Yankovic

What started as a running joke during a trip to Las Vegas became one of Dollars & Donuts' most unique shorts. The trip, which also inspired elements of the 2022 production The Sadder but Wiser Boy, saw Daryl Della, Ray Revello, and Tyler Della relentlessly pranking Lorenzo Ocon with their impromptu "Exercise Now!" movement, demanding jumping jacks in the most humiliating locations. The pranks escalated as the group enlisted cocktail waitresses and, in a grand finale, "Weird Al" Yankovic himself. After a Planet Hollywood concert, Daryl and Tyler convinced Al to record a video asking Lorenzo, "Can you do more jumping jacks?"

The short film builds on this video footage, with Al’s repeated request driving Lorenzo to hilarious levels of anxiety in a classic Looney Tunes-inspired setup. Daryl’s creative editing and Lorenzo’s understated comedic performance elevate the concept into a surreal, darkly funny masterpiece. Featuring the same irreverent humor Dollars & Donuts is known for, the short immortalized the Vegas prank while cementing Lorenzo’s place as the crew’s ultimate sport. Whether “Weird Al” has seen it or not remains a mystery, but Jumping Jacks captures his signature spirit in an unforgettable way.
