Behind the Scenes

- Eve Muntz, No Pill For Regret.

Directed by Daryl Della from a haunting script by Hank Della, this black-and-white psychological thriller pays homage to classic suspense films, blending Twilight Zone-style storytelling with Hitchcockian tension.

This film marked a pivotal resurgence for Dollars & Donuts Productions. Shot during Daryl’s 30th birthday weekend in October 2016, it heralded a new creative chapter for the team after a quieter stretch of projects. It also introduced Sasha Boggs as Eve Muntz, her first role in the Dollars & Donuts universe. Sasha’s compelling performance would lead to her becoming a central figure in the company’s productions, both as an actress and later as lead producer by 2022.

Adding to its distinct flavor, No Pill for Regret features a memorable bar scene with Daryl’s father, Hank Della, and producer Michael Martin’s father, George Martin. The inclusion of their fathers brought a uniquely personal touch to the production, embodying the spirit of collaboration that defines Dollars & Donuts.

With its gripping performances, atmospheric visuals, and unflinching exploration of human fragility, No Pill for Regret is a striking piece of cinema that stands as a turning point in Dollars & Donuts history.

dollars & donuts continuity

The character of Tom the pharmacist links two standout Dollars & Donuts productions: Oldtimers and No Pill for Regret. In Oldtimers (2012), Brian Grima played the pharmacist in a small but memorable role at the Sunshine Pharmacy.

When it came time to shoot No Pill for Regret, the crew returned to Sunshine Pharmacy, and Brian Grima reprised his role. However, there was one curious wrinkle: No Pill for Regret was set in the early 1960s, decades before Oldtimers. The crew laughed about Tom’s unchanging looks, joking that he must be a vampire. That inside joke lingered until Dollars & Donuts Showcase Issue #4 officially confirmed Tom’s vampiric nature in a comic co-written by J. Phillip Wilkins and Daryl Della.

The comic story expanded the Dollars & Donuts mythos, with Tom meeting Lorenzo Ocon’s unhinged character from 2019’s Tipsy. It didn’t stop there— cameos abounded, including the homeless man from 2011’s Dead Right, Munchie from 2021’s Night Dicks: Miami, and, of course, the ever-present jackalope.

What started as a bit of behind-the-scenes humor grew into a cornerstone of the Dollars & Donuts continuity, proving that no detail, no matter how small, is ever truly forgotten in this universe.
